Video Clips of Abby's First Year

Well, this is my first attempt to something with all the videos throughout Abby's first year. It is amazing to me to see the changes through the year. It was a fun one!

Christmas in Sedona 2009

The whole crew...Aunt Karen and Uncle Derek even drove out from Salt Lake to spend Christmas with us!

Opening presents on Christmas morning. We even got some for our little boy.

Abby worn out from opening all her presents.

Christmas Eve day just hanging out.

Playing in the snow at Snowbowl outside of Flagstaff.

Hiking in Sedona

It even snowed in Sedona one day. It was great to wake up to the snow covered scenery and it was even better that it was gone by the end of the day!

Site seeing at the Grand Canyon.

Highlights of Abby's 1st Year

Sledding

On our way home from snowboarding at Snowbowl in Flagstaff we saw kids sledding down the hill on the side of the road. On a whim, Matt pulled over and asked someone to borrow their sled. Abby LOVED it and so did Matt. Grandpa and Abby went for a run too. It ended up being one of the trip highlights.

Christmas Trip to Sedona

We wanted to make sure to see my family this Christmas but they are renting out their house since they are living in Honduras. The doctor advised that we not take Abby to Honduras so without a "home" to stay in for Christmas we used our timeshares to celebrate in Sedona, Arizona. It was a pretty easy flight and it has been a great trip. It has been really fun to see Abby play and enjoy Grandma & Grandpa Hughes. Sedona is a beautiful place and the red rocks are awesome. We especially enjoyed them covered with snow. We didn't expect to wake up to snow in Arizona! Matt even weren't snowboarding..pictures to come.

Abby's 1st Birthday

We started the day with a family breakfast and them opened Abby's birthday presents.

The birthday party was a blast! Kristen made the most fabulous birthday cakes and the kids loved them. We had a great time and Abby was very happy with all of her gifts! I still can't believe that my baby is 1!!!

Abby's New Car Seat

Abby has upgraded to the front facing luxury car seat. She is pretty excited about it and thinks she is such a big girl in it.

Last Day of Being Zero

Abby had a very busy day before her birthday as Matt said, "the last day of being zero". We met Gavin and Steph at Costco so we could get the food for their birthday party.

Next, Abby and I went to meet Santa. I foolishly thought she would love him. As you can see she clearly was not a fan!

We headed back to the Buelows so Steph and I could bake cookies and get ready for the party. Luckily, the kids both took a 3 hour nap so we could actually get things done.

To finish off the day we went to the Kapolei Christmas parade with Claudia and Steph and met the Staffaronis in the park. The kids had a blast and it was a great way to end the day.

12 Month Check-Up

Many people have been asking about Abby walking since around one is when a lot of kids generally begin to walk. Abby took her first steps a week before here birthday with a ton of coaxing from Matt and I and then...quit. She hasn't shown much interest in the last few weeks in walking on her own. She walks around holding on to things a ton but as her doctor says she is just chicken:).

At her check up on Thursday she got 4 shots and handled it really well. She cried when she got the shots but nothing a few Cheerios couldn't fix. She weighs 19 lbs and 14 ounces- almost legal to be in her front-facing car seat.

The doctor told us that she needs to quit the bottle. Most transitions have been fairly easy but this one is going to be tough. She is really not fond of the sippy cups so we are going to have to go cold turkey when we get back from our vacation to Sedona..stay tuned.

Waimea Bay- A day too early

We got up this morning at 4:30 and headed up to the North Shore in hopes we could see the Eddie Aikau memorial surf contest. From what we heard the waves had reached the 20 plus that was needed but the conditions weren't optimal. They expect that tomorrow will be the day. They are saying 90%...go figure. I couldn't miss work Tuesday so it was go Monday or not at all. Even with out the contest it was really cool to see the HUGE waves and the surfers who were brave enough to go out.

Matt dropped Abby and I off in the parking lot (it closed 5 minutes after we got in) and he parked at the botanical garden across the street. It worked perfectly. We set up the quickshade and the pack and play and just hung out watching the waves for a few hours.

Abby was so exhausted she fell asleep while she was drinking her bottle and even stayed asleep when we put her in the sling. As you Abby this hasn't happened in at least 6 months..she is not a big fan of cuddling and generally needs here own space to fall asleep so we cherished the moment:)

As we were walking around this woman stopped me and asked if I was "harboring a fugitive"...clever! She then proceeded to rub my belly for about a minute and said "don't worry I am a labor and delivery nurse I have a knack for these things." After feeling around she then stated that I was probably 29 weeks pregnant! "Uh, 22 weeks actually." I replied. Not exactly the self-esteem boost that I would have appreciated. Hasn't she ever heard you should guess low when weight or age is involved! Anyway, I think Matt was more upset that I was because he has to deal with me:).

Waves on the West Side

I woke up this morning to a roar outside and realized that the big waves were here! The water level was so high in the canal during high tide that it was almost level with our grass. I woke Matt up (at 6:30) to see the waves coming down the canal and a few crashed up on the grass. It was pretty cool (as long as it doesn't kill the grass) and the forecast says it should get bigger this week..yeah! We walked down the beach later on and watched some surfers braving the waves.

Furlough Friday #5

Another Furlough Friday...Matt and I ventured off to Kahala Mall and had lunch at Whole Foods. It is like a whole other world out there. We hiked Diamond Head to get a little exercise and take in some scenery. It was another great way to spend the day not getting paid:)

Girls' Christmas Parties

Last night was the annual Girls' Christmas party. Trish and Sarah were fabulous hostesses and it was a great evening!

We have been fortunate to have such an amazing group of friends in Hawaii that have become our family out here since we are all so far away from our real families. Since 2002 the girls have had some sort of Christmas party but it didn't really start getting serious until 2006..or at least that is when we have the first pictures of the whole group.
