Hiking San Diego

It is pretty embarrassing that Matt is the one introducing me to hikes around San Diego.  Guess I wasn't much of a hiker before living in Hawaii:).  We have been trying out some new hikes around here lately.

Matt and I snuck away for a few hikes recently.  Iron mountain is a few miles away and almost a 6 mile round trip.  The views were gorgeous and it was nicely groomed.

We also hiked about 7 miles to the waterfall in the Penasquitos Canyon.  It was beautiful and I can't believe that I have never done it after growing up here!

We jumped on a trail across from our house and explored some of Scripps Ranch.

We have some some beach hikes in Del Mar and we went up to Laguna Beach, in Orange County

The Penasquitos Canyon is a few miles away so we hiked around and explored.

I think he looks so big here!

Abby loves writing her name everywhere.

Science Expo

A few (actually many by now) weeks ago there was a huge science expo at Petco Park.  The kids  and I went down with my parents.  It was a beautiful day and they got to explore and play with many different science-based activities.
On a side note, I was reminded how important it is to make sure Abby and Zack are exposed to the variety of science careers, and see the variety of people in these jobs, when I was asking Abby what she wanted to be when she grows up.  I suggested a pilot for no other reason than I want free airfare and it sounds cool.  Anyway, Abby said, "girls aren't pilots!".  Of course, I told her that girls can do ANYTHING they want.  I was just shocked that she had that stereotype already at age 4.

Anyway, here are pics from our day.

Spring Break San Diego Staycation

Matt and I both had a two week spring break and they were the same weeks!  In the first week we tried to quickly figure out kitchen plans and matt put in the floors and baseboards with Josh.  I don't even remember what we did but it didn't quite feel like a break.  The second week, however, was super fun!  We hit as any parks as we could and enjoyed San Diego.  My parents wanted to take the kids to the living desert in Palm Springs so Matt and I took the day to go wine tasting in Temecula.  Win-win:).

Next, we went to the zoo...always a fun day:)

Abby loves the skyride and made sure we all went on it.

Then, we spent the day at SeaWorld.  More skyrides, lots of other attractions, and fun animals.

Baby Belugas:)

Z loves to hug all the animals and there are lots at every attraction...

After SeaWorld we headed to Ocean Beach for some pizza at Pizza Port and and afternoon playing in the sand.

Instead of having a party, we decided to take the kids to Legoland to celebrate Zack's 3rd birthday.  We surprised the kids and waited to tell the until we were arriving at the park.  They were super excited.  It was a great day and Zack is even more in love with legos now.

Our last day of adventures was spent in Coronado.  We rented bikes and rode around the "island", had a yummy lunch at Miguel's and spent the afternoon at the beach, which was all Zack wanted to do for his birthday.

The last day of our break was supposed to be our relaxing day.  Matt put in a new toilet, I painted baseboards, and we divided and conquered back to school/work errands with the kids.  During nap time, the neighborhood kids organized a scavenger hunt, which meant no sleeping for our kiddos.  Although we really wanted them to nap, they loved hanging out with the "big" kids and it makes me so happy to have a neighborhood that does fun things like that.

Only 2 months until summer!!!!
